Kombucha in winter: Why the fermented drink is particularly valuable now

In the cold season, our bodies are often particularly challenged: shorter days, less exercise and little sunlight put a strain on the immune system and digestion. Kombucha is a naturally fermented drink that is full of probiotics and thus offers gentle support for the body. The microorganisms it contains promote healthy intestinal flora, which not only stimulates digestion but also strengthens our immune system - exactly what we need in the winter.

Kombucha can be particularly helpful in winter:

  • Strong intestinal flora : Probiotics support intestinal health and promote a natural balance

  • Antioxidant protection : Kombucha contains natural antioxidants that neutralize free radicals and strengthen the immune system

  • Gentle source of energy : With its light caffeine effect from fermented tea, kombucha provides a gentle dose of energy – ideal for the often stressful holidays

The taste of pomegranate and apple brings a fruity note that perfectly complements the festive spices of ginger and cinnamon. Ingredients

  • 500 ml pomegranate kombucha (or natural kombucha)
  • 200 ml apple juice
  • 100 ml pomegranate juice
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
  • 100 ml of carbonated mineral water
  • juice of 1/2 lemon
  • Frozen pomegranate seeds (for garnishing in our ice cube tray)
  • Orange slices and fresh mint leaves or rosemary sprigs for garnish

preparation

  1. Make the juice mixture: Mix the apple juice, pomegranate juice and lemon juice together. Add the grated ginger and cinnamon stick and mix well.
  2. Let it steep: Let the juice mixture steep in the fridge for about 20-30 minutes so that the spices can develop. Then filter out the cinnamon and ginger if you don't want to keep them in the drink.
  3. Add kombucha and sparkling water: Carefully pour the pomegranate kombucha and sparkling water into the juice mixture and stir to retain the carbonation and keep the drink sparkling.
  4. Optional sweetening: If the drink is not sweet enough for you, you can add honey or maple syrup and stir well until everything has dissolved.
  5. Serving: Pour the deep red drink into glasses and garnish with ice cubes made from pomegranate seeds and orange slices. Fresh mint leaves or a sprig of rosemary give the drink a festive touch.
  6. Special presentation: To make the drink even more festive, you can dip the rims of the glasses in lemon juice and roll them in cinnamon sugar.
