  2. Skin-friendly : Particularly suitable for people with sensitive skin. You know exactly what you are putting on your skin.
  3. Affordable : unbeatable compared to any purchased detergent

  5. Microplastic-free : no guilty conscience or ignorance about contained microplastics
The homemade detergent costs the equivalent of just 2.40 euros. Baking soda (5 kg for around 10 euros) and washing soda (5 kg for around 10 euros) can usually be bought online in particularly large quantities - you can find smaller packs in drugstores. And even better: you can even "tap" baking soda and washing soda in most packaging-free stores such as unpackaged supermarkets. You can find a list of current unpackaged stores here in our article on the zero-waste bathroom . You can store everything wonderfully in the Ball Mason jar - 950 ml. This is perfect for this recipe - if you would rather make a large supply straight away, you can use the Ball Mason jar with a capacity of 1.9 L - simply adjust the amount of the recipe. As with homemade deodorant (you can find DIY on the blog) , baking soda neutralizes the odors . Washing soda cleans clothes and removes stains - especially white clothes become sparkling clean. Not only will you save a lot of money, but you will also reduce the amount of packaging waste that is generated with every detergent you buy. If you are worried about your washing machine: washing powder used to be made exclusively this way. Descaling the machine may be necessary more often - but the detergent is by no means harmful to the machine. Particularly tough stains must be treated beforehand - classic gall soap is particularly suitable for this. Wool and silk should not be washed with it.

What you need: (makes about 800 g of detergent) And here's how it works: First, grate the soap with a normal cheese grater. This requires a bit of strength, as the soap is naturally firmer than Parmesan cheese - but it's still a breeze! You don't have to use the finest grater - a bit coarser is more than sufficient and is also quicker. Now put the grated soap into your Ball Mason jar. Now it's time to weigh out the baking soda and washing soda and pour layer by layer into the glass. The three ingredients fill the glass perfectly. Put the lid on and shake vigorously to mix all the ingredients. Tadaaa, your plastic-free, packaging-free detergent is ready. If you want a little scent, you can add essential oil. Alternatively, there are also soap bars with a lemon scent. Dosage: 2 tablespoons per wash, which corresponds to about 30 - 50 g.
