Make your own dishwashing detergent
Today there is another little kitchen zero-waste hack : make your own DIY dishwashing liquid ! You only need 3 ingredients and you can store the dishwashing liquid in a Ball Mason jar or use it directly in the kitchen with the soap dispenser attachment.
With the instructions for a homemade dishwashing liquid, you save a lot of packaging waste and your kitchen becomes a bit more sustainable. Because the ingredients are also much more sustainable, 100% natural and biodegradable.
Our Mason Jar glasses are perfect for a zero-waste lifestyle - you can store and prepare so many things in them and, combined with the accessories, use them directly. For example, you can fill the dishwashing liquid into the Ball Mason jar and then put the soap dispenser head on. The Ball Mason soap dispenser or Mason Jar soap dispenser not only looks great in the kitchen, but also helps you to dose the zero-waste dishwashing liquid directly!

Make your own dishwashing detergent
What you need: (for 1 Ball Mason jar 475 ml)
- 1 Ball Mason Jar | Spiral | 475ml
- 1 soap dispenser pump
- 50 g pure vegetable soap (e.g. olive oil or Aleppo soap)
- 300 ml of water
- 2 teaspoons of baking soda
- 1 kitchen grater e.g. our Mason Jar Grater
Grate the soap into large pieces using a grater. Heat the water in a pan and add the soap shavings as soon as the water is hot. It doesn't have to boil - just be warm so that the soap dissolves.
Stir continuously with a whisk until the soap has dissolved.
Now add the baking soda.
Now let the whole thing cool down until the soap and water have combined to form a slightly firmer, yet still liquid mass.
Your homemade dishwashing liquid is ready! You can use the dishwashing liquid generously - it works differently than conventional dishwashing liquid and sometimes takes a little longer if the dishes are very dirty. Don't be surprised if it doesn't foam as much as the usual dishwashing liquid from the supermarket - you get used to it quickly and the effect remains the same :)
Tip: If something has really burned into the pot or pan, pure baking soda works wonders - just let it work briefly in the pan with a little water.
