Why chestnuts?
Chestnuts contain saponins . Saponins are natural soapy substances that occur in plants. Chestnuts, for example, contain 10-15% saponins.
Does it clean the laundry?
Oh, yes! The laundry is cleaned and odors are neutralized . Of course, your laundry won't smell like it does when using a conventional detergent because it doesn't contain any synthetic fragrances. You can also add essential oil to the washing container and the chestnut liquid. Another option would be to put a scented soap in the closet with the clothes. For us, however, it is completely sufficient that the laundry is clean and smells neutral. What you should avoid : white laundry . This can get a slight grey or yellow tint. What you need: And here's how it works: Cut the chestnuts into 4 pieces and put them in your FAVORITE GLASS . Fill the glass with water. cutting chestnuts Now leave the glass with chestnuts and water for a few hours or overnight . After a short time, the water will turn milky and foam when shaken . Sieve the chestnuts or remove them with a spoon. Your chestnut detergent is ready. You can now pour the solution into the detergent compartment as usual and wash the laundry at 40 degrees. Another tip: the fresher the chestnuts, the easier they are to cut. The water becomes milky and foams beautifully
How long does the detergent last?
It's clear: use it straight away or a day later. However, there is a trick you can use to "preserve" the chestnuts and have fresh detergent at all times - even in summer. Quarter the chestnuts first and then put them in a high-performance blender . Spread the large chestnut powder on a tray and let it dry . Alternatively, you can put it in the oven at 50 degrees for a few minutes. Put it in a glass jar - this way you can store the chestnuts and add 1.2 spoonfuls of chestnuts to water before use. You just have to collect enough chestnuts and prepare them in the autumn :) Important: diced chestnuts like we do won't keep! They need to be dried well - otherwise they'll go moldy.
