Make your own dishwashing powder

Back to basics - today we're using just a few ingredients to create a simple but equally effective DIY powder for the dishwasher . A simple way to make the kitchen and washing up more sustainable and environmentally friendly . Sustainability doesn't always mean a lot of effort. Fancy a new less-waste DIY ? Let's get started!

Make your own dishwashing powder with 3 raw materials

Real all-rounders for homemade household cleaning products: baking soda, soda and citric acid.

What exactly do the individual ingredients do?

  • Baking soda : cleans and neutralizes the odor
  • Soda : dissolves grease and cleans
  • Citric acid : has a descaling effect

Our homemade dishwashing powder works just as well as, for example, store-bought tablets - of course, sometimes a very dirty bowl doesn't get 100% clean. But that also happens with conventional, especially more environmentally friendly, cleaners. Overall, we are very happy with the result and are happy about this sustainable alternative.

Why make your own dishwashing detergent?

The advantages are very diverse:

  • cheap = for just under 400 grams you pay less than 2 €
  • sustainable = you can buy all ingredients plastic-free
  • Environmentally friendly = all ingredients are biodegradable and do not harm you or the environment. Conventional dishwashing powder contains a lot of chemicals - all of which ends up unfiltered in the wastewater.

What you need:

And here's how it works:

Weigh all the ingredients and pour them one after the other into the FAVORITE JAR . Make sure that the ingredients are poured in slowly and that there is no "dust"; the raw materials should not get into your eyes or be inhaled.

Now put the lid on the jar, screw it on tightly and shake the whole thing vigorously. This way, all the ingredients mix together easily and your dishwashing detergent is ready.

Particularly practical: you can simply attach the stainless steel measuring spoon to the outside of the glass. The holder for the spoon is simply clipped onto the glass. This way you always have the spoon to hand and can measure out the dishwashing powder optimally. 1 spoon corresponds to a teaspoon and is indicated on the spoon - practical, right?

Dosage :

Depending on the degree of soiling, we recommend 1-2 spoons of dishwashing powder per wash cycle .

Only with program with maximum 55 degrees .

Don’t forget to add rinse aid and salt to the appropriate containers in the dishwasher.

By the way , vinegar is also a good substitute for dishwashing liquid . Give it a try!
