Preserving strawberry jam in a jar
Summertime is strawberry time! And we can't get enough of strawberries all year round. Luckily, the taste of summer is easy to capture - with homemade jam in a Mason jar.
The basics of preserving are simple. All you need are the right tools and a certain amount of know-how - and you're ready to go!
What you need to pay attention to when preserving
Very important: the right utensils, hygiene and good ingredients. Now is the best time to preserve strawberries, for example - they are super sweet and available everywhere.
Our tips for preserving:
1. Sterilize your jars and tools before canning.
2. Check your Mason Jars for integrity.
3. Do not fill the glass completely - there should be 2 fingers of space between the glass and the rim.
4. After filling, clean the rim of the glass again with a cloth.
Which jars are suitable for preserving?
Our Oleni Mason Jars with two-part lids made of stainless steel are ideal - they are heat-resistant, seal the jar airtight and are an eye-catcher in the pantry. Why a two-part lid? This lid creates a vacuum through the plate and ring and seals the Oleni Mason Jar glass tightly. Stainless steel is also rustproof.
The best thing about our Mason Jar: once the jam is empty, the jar can be used multifunctionally - in combination with accessories such as our lemon squeezer or as a drinking glass. This is a great added value and makes the jar so versatile.
Boiling down jam - step by step:
1. Wash and cut the fruit and cook it in a large pot with sugar according to taste.
2. Boil the jars and lids in parallel in a pot.
3. Now fill the fruit directly into the sterilized, hot Oleni Mason Jar glasses. The stainless steel funnel is perfect for this - finally no more spilling.
4. Screw the lid onto the jar and let the Mason Jar glasses cool on a kitchen towel.
How long does homemade jam last?
Canned jam will last for 1-2 years - if it has not been cleaned out quickly beforehand.
Do Mason jars need to be turned upside down after canning?
No, that is not necessary. The jars can remain upright. You can tell whether a vacuum has formed because the Mason Jars make a classic "click" sound - the plate has "raised" slightly.
