Make your own citronella candle in a glass

Homemade and natural mosquito candle

Natural fragrance oils and rapeseed wax are the most important ingredients for your homemade citronella candle in a Ball Mason jar . Rapeseed is a regional, plant-based raw material - in contrast to the usual paraffin made from petroleum. The significantly shorter transport routes and the rapidly renewable raw material make rapeseed wax more sustainable than paraffin. The candle also makes a great little gift on Mother's Day for a cozy barbecue evening. The lid allows you to seal it easily and airtight even after use. This means that the candle always looks neat on the table, even after repeated use. Nothing stands in the way of a nice atmosphere, without mosquitoes and with beautiful candlelight. ;-)

What you need:
And here's how it works:
Cut a few pieces off the rapeseed wax block. Fill the wax directly into your FAVORITE JAR and place the jars in the oven or in a pot of boiling water. During the melting process, you will need to keep adding a little wax until the desired amount is reached.
Cut a piece off the cotton wick. The wick should reach to the bottom and run a little over the edge of the glass.
You can use wooden skewers or a pen to secure the wick. We used wooden skewers here. Now tie the wick around the wooden skewer. This will ensure that it stays firmly in place. You can then shorten the wick later.
Important for the wick : We use a so-called round wick here. It is important to place the wick in the wax in a V-shaped direction . The cotton threads have a V-pattern on one side. Make sure that the threads are pointing downwards with the V-tip. As soon as the wax has melted, you can add a few drops of essential oil and stir with a wooden skewer. A few drops are enough here, depending on the intensity. Now dip your wick in the glass.
You can add some decorations to the top of the wax, such as a few dried flowers or leaves. Now you just have to wait until the wax has hardened. Finally, trim the wick and you've got a great, homemade citronella candle in your FAVORITE JAR . The jars can be refilled with new candle wax again and again - this avoids a lot of waste and looks great too. Have fun making it!
