DIY After Sun Lotion

Summer, sun, sunshine! Who doesn't love summer with its seemingly endless nights, long trips to the lake and of course holidays by the sea? What you can't do without: sun protection and of course after-sun protection for your skin. You can make a lovely after-sun lotion with aloe vera for your FAVORITE JAR yourself and use the pump dispenser to dose it perfectly. Unfortunately, conventional after sun lotions contain a lot of chemicals and are always packaged in plastic. There is a better way and it's super easy! In our blog post about homemade sunscreen, we have already shown you how easy and effective it is to make your own sunscreen . To all doubters: conventional sunscreen is anything but good for you and the environment. Of course it protects against sunburn - the question is just how and what effect this can have on your body and the environment. Why shouldn't homemade sunscreen protect you? Let's just question the "tried and tested" and find new ways to live naturally and sustainably. It's so much fun to try new things - and if you're unsure: maybe don't lie directly in the midday sun with your homemade sunscreen :) Try it out bit by bit. We pack it in our beach bag every time and love the new plastic-free sunscreen. But now to the topic of after sun lotion : after sunbathing, your skin will appreciate an extra portion of moisture. Here's how you can easily make your own after sun lotion to reduce packaging waste and make it easy to dose:

What's in the after sun lotion?

  • Aloe Vera: moisturizes the skin
  • Shea Butter: softens skin and makes the after sun creamier
  • Beeswax: nourishes and repairs the skin
  • Apricot kernel oil: repairs damaged skin cells
You can find all the ingredients for a zero-waste after sun lotion in glass packaging. The ingredients can be used for so many other great recipes.

What you need: (for 1/2 glass Ball Mason Jar | Quilted | 240 ml) And here's how it works: Melt the solid ingredients (shea butter and beeswax) in a bowl over a water bath. As soon as both ingredients are liquid, add aloe vera and apricot kernel oil. Mix the ingredients with a whisk until you have a creamy after sun lotion. Don't take too long, as the shea butter and beeswax tend to harden again quickly. When everything is well mixed and there are no lumps in the lotion, pour it all into your FAVORITE JAR . Add a pump dispenser and off you go! Happy Summer!
